Medina Baths AKA Monnickendam Ltd as it was, and after partial demolition .

The baths on Medina Esplanade started out in 1893 as the Hove Baths and Laundry Company, continuing until 1915 when the business was wound up with the London City and Westminster Bank taking over the mortgage.
The fabric of the swimming bath was eventually replaced by Bath Court.

The photograph on the right shows that this was a bath for serious swimmers - no way out on this side!

The future? There has been considerable speculation as to the intentions for this site, and clearly the sense of uncertainty felt by residents due to the proximity of the proposed King Alfred behemoth is not to be envied. As and when a planning application is submitted for this site, we shall update members.
